Main point

The main point of this module is that we can apply the concept of the Gift or reciprocity when studying care. 

Significance

This shows as that care is not always freely given. Some anthropologists would argue that it is practically never freely given. Instead it is exchanged along principles not of the market but rather relationships and obligations.

Next Module

This ties in closely with the next module. When a mother cares, it is widely considered to be an expression of her loving nature. Marxist feminists say that this 'loving-nature-of-mothers" idea is really just a smokescreen for the exploitation of women. An anthropologists named Strathern has a more nuanced idea.
